By the time this film was released ‘Ol ‘Al was probably the most successful director in the world. His pictures had captured the imagination of a global audience making then squirm in their seats with anticipation of a killer or a Femme. Watching these films now I am acutely aware of his use of the medium. The pace is slow enough for an audience member to always feel part of the action that is unfolding before them and each shot reveals something new so that I am forced to keep watching. I have tried to watch Rear Window half heartedly but found I was lost all the time and had to rewind to catch up what had happened.

I will be following up this post with some more Hitchcock later on so consider this a tease. Here are two great videos talking about techniques and themes that make up a film with a 99% rating in rotten tomatoes… OMG..99% just saying.
